Preface to the electronic edition
The title refers to Pehr Henrik
Ling (1776–1839), a poet and fencing instructor, known as the
”father of Swedish gymnastics”, a system that was a competitor to the
German system of ”Turnen” (see Wikipedia:
Battle
of the Systems). This book from 1890 was digitized in October 2014
by the Wellcome Library for the Internet Archive, from where the
scanned images and the OCR text in January 2024 were copied to Project
Runeberg. Pages 48-49 are missing. We have white-balanced (brightened)
the images.
The same book was also published in 1892 in the United States with
slightly different text and headlines,
as found here.
This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive,
from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg.
We very much appreciate that they have made this possible
and want to encourage other digital library projects to
follow their example. Read more about Project Runeberg's
image sources.
