This is Project Runeberg's digital facsimile edition of a book in English published in 1920 by Jernkontoret, the association of the Swedish iron and steel industry (www.jernkontoret.se), for the purpose of promoting Swedish exports. Some headings appear in English, French, and Spanish, but most of the book's 286 pages are used for descriptions in English of various Swedish iron works. In 1920, there were still very many of these, most of them small and situated in central Sweden, west and north-west of Stockholm, as can be seen on the enclosed map of Sweden. Most plants in this "Bergslagen" region, having a history going back to the middle ages, were closed in the following 60 years. The survivor being Kiruna-Malmberget in the far north of Sweden.
Also from Jernkontoret, Project Runeberg has published parts of the association's magazine Jernkontorets annaler, in Swedish.
Founded in 1992, Project Runeberg is an open and voluntary
initiative to publish free electronic editions of classic Nordic
literature on the Internet. Project Runeberg is based in Linköping,
south-west of Stockholm, in a region almost void of iron works. This
is our second title in English. It was digitized in May 2004. Learn
