Preface to the digital edition
This is Project Runeberg's digital facsimile
edition of Pictures of Sweden, by Danish author
Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), translated to English and published in
1851 in London.
The Danish original, I Sverrig, and
a Swedish translation, I Sverige, were both published in 1851.
They have later been reprinted many times.
This book was not scanned by Project Runeberg. Instead, the scanned
images and raw OCR text were provided by the Internet Archive, where this book
is identified as UF00001842. It was scanned in December 2003 at the University of
Florida. Based on the same digitization, an electronic text (e-text)
edition of Pictures
of Sweden was made available in May 2004 by Project Gutenberg. Project
Runeberg made the current edition available in January 2005.
This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive,
from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg.
We very much appreciate that they have made this possible
and want to encourage other digital library projects to
follow their example. Read more about Project Runeberg's
image sources.
