Viktor Rydberg (1828-1895) was one of Sweden's most important authors in the 19th century, between Almqvist and Strindberg. Fribytaren på Östersjön ("the pirate in the Baltic Sea") constitutes volume four of fourteen in Skrifter av Viktor Rydberg ("collected works"), which appeared in the decades following the author's death, edited by Karl Warburg (1852-1918). This collection was sold in numerous editions, and other, smaller collections with similar names were also sold. Find an overview in our presentation of this Nordic Author.
The 5th edition, printed in 1910, was used as a copy. The original version is also available here, c.f. the 2nd edition, which is identical to the first, and differs quite substantially from the later editions.
The 539 pages are presented in facsimile in 120 dpi grayscale,
combined with unprocessed, "raw" text from optical character
recognition (OCR). If you volunteer to proofread a chapter from this
novel, and e-mail your results to the editors of Project Runeberg,
[email protected], we will add HTML markup and make it
available as a parallel to the facsimile edition.
