Count Folke Bernadotte
THE CURTAIN
FALLS
Last Days of the Third Reich
Translated from the Swedish by
Count Eric Lewenhaupt
New York / Alfred A. Knopf
1945
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION
Preface to the electronic edition
In his book Slutet (June 1945),
count Folke Bernadotte describes his negotiation with and mission to
Nazi Germany on behalf of the Swedish Red Cross at the end of World
War II. This is an English translation of that book.
The book has been digitized in December 2003 or October 2006 by the
Internet Archive, from where the scanned TIFF images were in April
2022 copied to Project Runeberg. We added our own OCR text, using
ABBYY Finereader 15.
The translator Eric Lewenhaupt was previously not known to us, but
we found out in 2024 that he lived 1886–1968 and resided in London.
This means copyright expires in the year 2039. For the remaining 15
years, we will keep the book available until told otherwise.
This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive,
from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg.
We very much appreciate that they have made this possible
and want to encourage other digital library projects to
follow their example. Read more about Project Runeberg's
image sources.
